TeamGroup Xtreem ARGB White DDR4 Memory Review

Introduction The goal of many builders today is to create something extremely clean with the touch of RGB. A popular theme of choice is doing an all-white build which can limit the available components. TeamGroup is throwing its hat into the ring with a line of white components which included M.2s, SSDs, and memory. On the memory front, TeamGroup has just released an all-white version of its stylish Xtreem ARGB. The Xtreem ARGB White features a full mirror light penetration body, the latest ARGB technology, premium overclocking 10-layer board, and selected high-quality ICs. Just like the black version, the Xtreem ARGB White comes in a variety of configurations ranging from 3200MHz to 4000MHz with a number of different timings. At the time of this review, the Xtreem ARGB White can be purchased from NewEgg for an MSRP of $139.99 for a 16GB kit to $369.99 for a 64GB kit. Looking to the right, we can see our review sample is the 16GB kit at a rated speed of 3600MHz. As mentioned in the intro, the Xtreem supports various RGB software that can be seen in the lower left corner of the package. It includes software such as ASRock Polychrome Sync, Gigabyte RGB Fusion, ASUS Aura Sync, MSI Mystic Light, and Biostar RGB Sync. Removing the outer sleeve reveals a jet-black box consisting of a stunning metallic T-Force logo on the front. In addition to the Xtreem ARGB memory modules, TeamGroup also included a warranty booklet, micro fabric cloth, and T-Force case badge. When we remove the Xtreem ARGB’s from the blister pack, we see that it has the exact body of the Black Edition, but it is bright white. Running down the center of the module is a silver strip that stands out against the all-white body and sports some subtle Xtreem branding to the right. Flipping the Xtreem ARGB to its back, we find the token warranty sticker with details of the memory module. This module is 8GB in capacity with a rated speed of 3600MHz as timings of 14-15-15-35 running at 1.45V. On top there is some more branding with “T-Force” written in the center. With the unboxing out of the way, it's time to install them into our test bench to check out its ARGB features. From the moment we booted the test bench, we were blown away by how beautiful this memory kit was. Comparing it to the Black Edition, this kit was much more radiant and let a lot more light through. System Installation & Performance Testing The test system we are using to benchmark our 2 x 8GB Xtreem ARGB White Edition memory kit is: Open Test Bench Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Pro Motherboard Intel 9900K Processor at Stock Corsair H115i Platinum MSI RTX 2060 Super Gaming Z GPU Corsair HX750 PSU Microsoft Windows 10 Professional For testing, we benchmarked with the following pieces of software: CPU-Z AIDA64 Extreme Edition Passmark Performance Test SiSoft Sandra 7-Zip Super Pi Modded 1.5 7-Zip "This form allows you to measure the performance of your computer. The benchmark shows a rating of MIPS (million instructions per second). The rating value is calculated from the measured speed, and it is normalized with the results of Intel Core 2 CPU with multi-threading option switched off. So if you have modern CPU from Intel or AMD, rating values in single-thread mode must be close to real CPU frequency. There are two tests: compression with the LZMA method and decompression with the LZMA method. Once the total passes reach 100, the score is taken.” In 7-Zip, we find the Xtreem ARGB near the top of the pack with an impressive score of 69046. AIDA64 Engineer Edition “AIDA64 Engineer has a hardware detection engine unrivaled in its class. It provides detailed information about installed software and offers diagnostic functions and support for overclocking. As it is monitoring sensors in real-time, it can gather accurate voltage, temperature and fan speed readings, while its diagnostic functions help detect and prevent hardware issues. It also offers a couple of benchmarks for measuring the performance of individual hardware components or the whole system. It is compatible with all 32-bit and 64-bit Windows editions, including Windows 10 and Windows Server 2016.” In AIDA64’s bandwidth test, we see the Xtreem ARGB at the top charts for our Intel test bench. In the AIDA latency benchmark, we sit in the middle of the pack with a latency of 49.5ns. Passmark Performance Test - Memory Mark - Threaded “Fast, easy to use, PC speed testing and benchmarking. PassMark PerformanceTest ™ allows you to objectively benchmark a PC using a variety of different speed tests and compare the results to other computers.” In the Passmark benchmark, the Xtreem ARGB takes the top spot again with a score of 42139. SiSoft Sandra “SiSoftware Sandra provides a robust package of diagnostic tools for testing your system and teasing out its problems--or potential headaches.” In SiSoft the Xtreem ARGB just edges out the GeIL 3600MHz kit with scores of 33.44/33.3/33.44 in integer/float/aggerate. Super Pi Modded 1.5 “On August 1995, the calculation of pi up to 4,294,960,000 decimal digits was succeeded by using a supercomputer at the University of Tokyo. The program was written by D.Takahashi in collaboration with Dr.Y.Kanada at the computer center. This record should be the current world record. (Details are shown in the windows help.) This record-breaking program was ported to personal computer environments such as Windows NT and Windows 95. In order to calculate 33.55 million digits, it takes 3 days with a Pentium 90 MHz, 40 MB main memory and 340 MB available storage.” SuperPi loved the Xtreem ARGB memory kit finishing with an extremely fast time of 7 minutes and 2 seconds. Overclocking Now that the stock benchmarks have been completed, let's see how much farther we can push the TeamGroup’s Xtreem ARGB memory kit. At stock, this kit runs at a speed of 3600MHz at a voltage of 1.45v with CL14-15-15-35 timings. When overclocking the Xtreem ARGB kit, we were able to achieve a minor overclock of 3733MHz when increasing the voltage slightly to 1.47v. These changes did increase the read/write performance slightly but at the expense of add 5ns to its latency. In my opinion, I would just run the kit at stock as it's already extremely fast in both speed and latency. Final Thoughts and Conclusion Just like the Xtreem ARGB Black Edition, the White version astounds me with its slick design and bright white body. Just like its brother, the mirror finish looked fantastic on the test bench and the all-white body makes them pop. Just when you think they cannot look any better, once powered on, the Xtreem ARGB White takes RGB to a new level. TeamGroup has designed the Xtreem ARGB kit to diffuse the light perfectly, giving them a more elegant look rather than the bright in-your-face RGB we are all too familiar with. From a performance perspective, you could not ask for anything more from a memory kit. It pretty much topped the charts in every benchmark and was leaps and bounds above the competition in latency with a snappy 43.8ns. Even though we were able to overclock the kit to 3733MHz, I would probably just run it stock. The overclocked kit did have a mild benefit in read/write speeds but it is not worth the additional 5ns in latency. TeamGroup pulled out all the stops with the Xtreem ARGB White Edition by combining exceptional performance with jaw-dropping aesthetics. This is easily the best-looking kit I have seen, pushing its brother to second place.
