TEAMGROUP T-Create Classic 10L DDR4 Memory Review

Introduction With content creation at an all-time high, it’s imperative to have high-quality hardware that is dependable. From this need, TeamGroup has launched its new T-Create line of products which targets creators, providing quality hardware for their demanding workloads. The T-Create Classic 10L memory kit available in 8GB/16GB/32GB configurations with speeds of 2666MHz or 3200MHz. Some of the notable features to set it apart from other kits are its 10-layer circuit design with anti-noise technology, customized high-temperature resistant capacitors, and a neutral silver aesthetic. The Classic 10L can be found at NewEgg starting at 72.99 for a 16GB (2 x 8GB) to $239.99 for a 64GB (2 x 32GB). We would like to thank TeamGroup for sending us the T-Create Classic 10L kit to review. About TeamGroup Team Group Inc. was founded in 1997 in Taiwan and is one of the leading memory storage manufacturers in the world. They provide a variety of products such as Memory, Solid State Drives, SD Cards, USB drives, and mobile accessories. Our kit is the 32GB (2 x 16GB) at 3200MHz. Inside with the two memory modules is a warranty booklet as well as a T-Create case badge. Taking a closer look at the memory modules themselves TeamGroup went for a very neutral aesthetic with a black PCB with a light silver heat spreader. On the front of the heatsink, there is the new T-Create branding in the center and the words “DDR4 Classic” in the right corner. Flipping to the back of the module we find a warranty sticker that lists the Classic’s specifications and serial number. Our sample is 16GB with a rated speed of 3200MHz and timings of CL22-22-22-52 running at 1.2 volts. Taking a peek at the top of the heat spreader we find a little more branding with the word “T-CREATE” written in the center. System Installation & Performance Testing The test system we are using to benchmark our 2 x 16GB T-Create memory kit is: Open Test Bench Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Pro Motherboard Intel 9900K Processor at Stock Corsair H115i Platinum Gigabyte RTX 2070 Super Gaming Oc GPU Corsair HX750 PSU Microsoft Windows 10 Professional For testing, we benchmarked with the following pieces of software: CPU-Z AIDA64 Extreme Edition Passmark Performance Test SiSoft Sandra 7-Zip Super Pi Modded 1.5 7-Zip "This form allows you to measure the performance of your computer. The benchmark shows a rating of MIPS (million instructions per second). The rating value is calculated from the measured speed, and it is normalized with the results of Intel Core 2 CPU with multi-threading option switched off. So if you have a modern CPU from Intel or AMD, rating values in single-thread mode must be close to real CPU frequency. There are two tests: compression with the LZMA method and decompression with the LZMA method. Once the total passes reach 100, the score is taken.” In the 7-Zip benchmark, TeamGroup’s T-Create Classic sits in the middle of the pack with a score of 65793 and finds itself in 2nd place among the other 3200MHz kits. AIDA64 Engineer Edition “AIDA64 Engineer has a hardware detection engine unrivaled in its class. It provides detailed information about installed software and offers diagnostic functions and support for overclocking. As it is monitoring sensors in real-time, it can gather accurate voltage, temperature, and fan speed readings, while its diagnostic functions help detect and prevent hardware issues. It also offers a couple of benchmarks for measuring the performance of individual hardware components or the whole system. It is compatible with all 32-bit and 64-bit Windows editions, including Windows 10 and Windows Server 2016.” In AIDA64’s bandwidth test, the T-Create kit is at the bottom of the graph likely due to its looser timings than other kits we have reviewed. In the AIDA latency benchmark, the T-Create Classic is in the lower portion of the graph with a latency of 55.6ns. Passmark Performance Test - Memory Mark - Threaded “Fast, easy to use, PC speed testing and benchmarking. PassMark PerformanceTest ™ allows you to objectively benchmark a PC using a variety of different speed tests and compare the results to other computers.” In Passmark we find the T-Create Classic in the middle of the pack with a score of 35045. SiSoft Sandra “SiSoftware Sandra provides a robust package of diagnostic tools for testing your system and teasing out its problems--or potential headaches.” In SiSoft, again due to the looser timings of the T-Create Classic is near the bottom of the graph with scores of 27.81/27.92/27.71 GB/s in Aggregate/Integer/Float values. Super Pi Modded 1.5 “On August 1995, the calculation of pi up to 4,294,960,000 decimal digits was succeeded by using a supercomputer at the University of Tokyo. The program was written by D.Takahashi in collaboration with Dr.Y.Kanada at the computer center. This record should be the current world record. (Details are shown in the windows help.) This record-breaking program was ported to personal computer environments such as Windows NT and Windows 95. In order to calculate 33.55 million digits, it takes 3 days with a Pentium 90 MHz, 40 MB main memory and 340 MB available storage.” In SuperPi the T-Create Classic finishes with a time of 7 minutes and 20 seconds which is with 15-20 seconds of other 3200MHz kits we have benched. Overclocking Now with the stock benchmarks completed, let us see how far we can push the T-Create Classic memory kit. At stock, this kit runs at a speed of 3200MHz at a voltage of 1.2v with CL22-22-22-52 timings. When overclocking the T-Create Classic we were able to achieve an increase of 400MHz to 3600MHz without adjusting its voltage. Once we increased the voltage to 1.30v this allowed us to further push the kit to a final speed of 4000MHz with slightly loosened timings of CL22-28-28-64. With the overclock applied we saw a drastic improvement in read/write/copy performance with increases of 13.1/18.1/11.8 percent as well as a slightly lower latency of 53.2ns. Re-running the SuperPi benchmark with our overclock we were able to shave off 6 seconds with a time of 7 minutes and 14 seconds. Final Thoughts and Conclusion Just getting into content creation myself I am glad to see products coming out with creators in mind. Even though I have not had any bad experiences with memory kits in the past it’s nice that TeamGroup has put in some extra effort to make sure the T-Create Classic kit is as dependable as possible. Products designed for workstation type tasks have different goals in mind than what a gamer would be after. From a performance perspective, out-of-the-box, we found the T-Create kit on the lower end of our benchmarks, but this is by design. As one of the first Creator oriented kits we’ve reviewed, we had to compare it to gaming oriented kits. Gaming oriented memory almost universally use Intel’s XMP standard, which is a factory supplied overclocking profile. This takes a kit that would otherwise run somewhere between 2133MHz and 2666MHz and overclocks it for you to 3200Mhz or more with tighter timings. This works great for gaming most of the time, but can be accompanied by system instability and sometimes outright incompatibility that comes from overclocking. TeamGroup is going the other direction with the T-Create memory and using JEDEC standard speeds and timings to give you memory that will run on pretty much any system with no fuss, and no guesswork. AMD’s Ryzen 3000 and the current Ryzen 5000 series CPU’s are rated for 3200MHz memory, and Intel’s upcoming 11th gen CPU’s are expected to natively support this memory speed as well. If you aren’t overclocking, you can pretty well guarantee rock solid stability and predictable performance, exactly what a creator needs.
